Hosted by Woodbine
11/19/2024 6:30pm
585 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385
From elite strategic pastimes to gamblers' delights, games are as old as civilization itself. Woodbine invites you to take a trip into the distant past to explore the mechanics of chance, competition, and fun from bygone eras. Come play with homemade and 3D printed boards and pieces and experience games ranging from the Royal Game of Ur to Mancala. The twist? Some of these games only survive physically intact with partial-to-no rules. In the spirit of Woodbine's ethos as a cooperative space for practicing autonomy, we invite you to collaborate with your fellow players to fill in the gaps and explore the interactions that result. Or you can start from scratch and make/decorate your own game with materials provided by Woodbine. If all that sounds too daunting, feel free to bring your own easy-to-teach board/card games or select one from Woodbine's library. Regardless of the path you choose, come kick off Game Design Days by meeting new people, playing some (very) old games, and contemplating how previous cultures spent their leisure time - and why.
